Kansas City Wedding Venue Blog Series – The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

May 24

It is no secret that I adore the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. This goes WAY back to my childhood taking classes in the summer and then continued as I completed my Master’s Thesis for Art Museum Education from KU working closely with the education department at the Nelson. I always figured I would somehow do work at this beautiful space, and although it has turned out to be a little bit different than I had imagined when I was studying for my Masters Degree, I really DO get to work in this beautiful space every year! What an amazing place to have a wedding. Kali and Adam love this iconic Kansas City space too and when they contacted me to film their wedding here I was beyond thrilled to help them. They were one of the first couples to have their wedding ceremony on the grounds of the Nelson and it was perfect! The reception in this beautiful space was stunning and their guests had a wonderful time!

Here is a little highlight featuring this amazing space and this sweet couple. Make sure you check out the interview below from the Event Planning Team over at the museum! This wedding is featured in the Summer 2017 issue of The Knot – so you will have to check that out on your newsstand.

Tell us a little bit about the Nelson-Atkins.

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art opened to the public on December 11, 1933. Located east of the plaza, the museum is known for its neoclassical architecture. The Nelson-Atkins was voted best U.S. Museum, based on Yelp Reviews. For a further description, come visit the museum as it is free to the public!

Kansas City Wedding Venue Blog Series – The President Hotel

Apr 24

As we enter our 15th year of celebrating weddings with so many amazing couples in Kansas City it only seems right to look back a bit on some of our favorite venues and locations in this great city! We have asked a few of our friends to share a little bit about their venues and of course we needed to make some extra pretty films to go along with this project!

We are starting with the President Hotel in Downtown Kansas City. I thought about just editing some pretty shots of the President, but I just couldn’t do it without telling a little bit of the story of the sweet couple who celebrated their reception there. You will get to see Erin and her family and friends getting ready in the hotel, Erin and Tim having their first look on the Mezzanine as well a little peek at their ceremony at Redemptorist Catholic Church. Then we take you back to the President for the most lovely reception!

We asked Samie LaForce, Catering Sales Manager at the President, a few questions you might be interested in hearing about as you plan your wedding day. We love how Samie keeps things running smoothly and we always know the families and guests will be well taken care of on their wedding day!

Tell us a little bit about the Hotel President and where you are in Kansas City.
The President Hotel is a wedding venue with a bit of history in Kansas City, Missouri, we are a National Historic Landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, located in the Power and Light District of Kansas City’s downtown, and just steps away from the Kansas City Convention Center. The bride and groom and their guests will feel like they have gone back in time with this 1920s inspired interior. This hotel accommodates weddings and receptions up to 300 guests. I have personally been here for just about 5 years.

What do your brides and grooms love about your venue?

Brides love that we are all inclusive. We handle so many of the details so that they can enjoy the planning process and the weekend that they are here with their families. I also believe it makes it much easier to be in a hotel because all of the personal items for the family, bride and groom and bridal party are right here. There is no need to load up cars at the end of the night. We assure that everything is delivered including all decor and gifts so that everyone can just enjoy the party. Number one though would have to be the ballroom of course. It is almost magical. Even being up there almost every weekend, it still takes my breath away when I walk in. There is something about the antique marble floors and the beautiful chandeliers that make you just feel romantic.

What makes your venue unique?

That it has been fully restored to it’s original 1920’s grandeur. The Italian Terrazzo marble floors are exactly as they were in 1926 and the integrity of the rest of the hotel is always kept in the forefront during any renovation. It’s handcrafted gold crown molding and vaulted ceilings are really unmatched venue wise here in the city.

How does the service and experience that your clients have at your venue make it amazing?
We take food and beverage service very seriously here. We hold ourselves to an extremely high standard always but especially with our special events team. The quality of service and product that we deliver is complimented constantly and we take a lot of pride in what we do. For me personally, this planning experience with the couple and their family is a once in a lifetime experience. It is very personal and very detailed. They are depending on myself and our event staff to make sure everything is executed exactly as they’ve dreamed.

We had an amazing team for this wedding – Here they are!

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, KCMO – Ascend Service

Apr 14

Good Friday seems like a great time to share this little film we made a few months back for the good folks at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. We have shot many weddings and a couple baptisms at St. Andrew’s and were thrilled to help them put this video together. It was a beautiful service.

Kansas City Video Production – Jet.com – culture highlight

Feb 22

Did you know we do a great deal of corporate video as well as weddings? Well, we do! This was a fun peek inside the culture of Jet.com – we LOVED helping them tell their story of what the culture inside this HUGE operation was like! Loved the energy of these employees! What a fun place to work!

Loved the review that they left us too!
“Creative Films created an internal video for our company. We wanted something that illustrated our culture to potential candidates, as well as new employees we were taking through orientation. We had a quick turnaround for the project because we wanted to show it at an upcoming event. She exceeded all expectations. She took time to actually understand our culture and learn about our business. She made all of the employees that she shot feel very comfortable. Even with the quick deadline, she was able to create something that we are extremely proud of and have shared throughout our entire organization. I will be using Maura again for future videos and highly recommend her.”

Thanks Jet!

Kansas City Wedding Video – The Brass on Baltimore & Visitation Catholic Church

Feb 6

“Joy is about the deep rooted conviction that the way you are living your life is a very good way to spend a life. And the person you’ve chosen to spend it with is the RIGHT person to spend a life with.”

I adore these words from Fr. at Mike and Michelle’s wedding ceremony. This wedding weekend was so full of emotion and meaning as Michelle and her family had lost their Dad just a few months from this day. I am so very thankful we were able to be there to help them preserve all these amazing moments and words that are so fleeting.
