United States of Community Service – Almost Sleepover 2011

Feb 8

I have been holding on to this one a while – mostly because the event happened during one of my busiest fall seasons EVER! There is a bit of a back story, so forgive me. Over a year ago, my daughter received a letter from her cousins who live on the East Coast, who sadly we don’t ever get to see or play with just due to distance and time. She was so excited to get mail, especially something from what felt a little like a “long lost cousin”! 🙂 Willow and Rosalie were inviting her to put together an Almost Sleepover Community Service event for an organization they started the year before. Lily gathered up a few of her good buddies and began planning their own local event. The idea behind the United States of Community Service group is that KIDS can make a difference. These kids worked so hard to spread their word so that there would be simultaneous “giving parties” in every state of the USA on Make a Difference Day. We had a great turn out of girls attend the Kansas City “almost sleepover” and collected new PJ’s for Moms and kids for a local shelter, made cuddly pillows for kids coming to the shelter, ornaments for Meals on Wheel’s participants, and wrote letters to soldiers abroad for the holidays. It was a great experience for all the girls involved and we really had a great time!

Here is a little peek into our event!

Bootcamp Fitness – 10 years – Kansas City Crossfit

Jun 16

I want to wish a HUGE congratulations to Coach Rut for his 10 year anniversary with Bootcamp Fitness. I have been part of this team for only one year, and I can honestly say I understand why so many of the members here are committed for many years. It is an amazing program and has changed my life in so many ways. I started last year to help condition for my first sprint triathlon and am hooked. I think the members say it best in this short little video we made! See you at the 6am class!

One last triathlon post.

Sep 12

I can’t help it – I am just REALLY proud of myself and the strong ladies who finished with me. so I promise this is the last post until next year’s race at least. I shot this little film with our simple Canon PowerShot SD4000. It is really a great little camera and does a fairly good job with the video too. I was thinking about a flip but also needed a little point and shoot camera for the summer and this has really done the trick! So here is my little “home movie” of our triathlon trip. enjoy!

Stop Motion – Prairie Elementary

Sep 2

Oh, this is just pure fun.

I really love getting to go up to my kids’ school and do special little projects for them – this was NO exception! We created this fun little informative piece to help parents figure out how to navigate the pick up and drop-off line before and after school. Thank you to all the Moms, big brother, and my sweet husband Sam for walking so slooooowly in the blistering heat last week, and thank you to all the great kids for piling in the little wagons! Enjoy our little PSA if you didn’t get a chance to see it at Back to School Night tonite!

bootcamp fitness

This is the most amazing group of people I am so lucky to have found this summer. My friend Sharon (one of the trainers here at Bootcamp Fitness) and I were talking at the end of the school year just a few months ago about the triathlons we were planning on participating in this summer. It makes so much more sense for Sharon to do a triathlon, as she is a tremendous athlete.  I had decided, rather impulsively, that I would go with some girlfriends to Chicago this summer and participate in my first race to celebrate my 40th birthday. Now, I am not an athlete, although I am pretty active and have run several 5Ks and bike fairly often, but to do a triathlon is kind of a big deal. So Sharon and I were talking, and she encouraged me to try her gym. One thing led to another, and I am completely hooked. I honestly think if I hadn’t work so hard with Coach Rut and Sharon these past few months I would be nowhere NEAR as ready to do this race next weekend. I won’t be setting any records, but barring any crazy situations, I feel pretty confident that I will finish the race, upright on my own accord. :-). I might even do another one next year! Yes, I can talk big like that BEFORE the race. I think I said that after each of my babies too. 🙂 I did however stop having babies at two. Hopefully I can do more triatholons than babies. Mabye THAT is my new goal!

Anyhow, I am excited to help Coach Rut with his new website, you can see it HERE. We had a great photo session last week and I have many more images and a video to share that you will see soon, so check back on bootcampfitnesskc.com often! And sign up for a class while you are there – I promise you, you won’t regret it. You don’t have to be training for some crazy midlife crisis race.

So, thanks Coach Rut and Coach Sharon for your encouragement!  See you tomorrow AM at 6:00!
